About Classic Windows Minesweeper

Classic Windows Minesweeper takes the classic mine-clearing puzzle and rebuilds it for the modern browser, with a 16x16 grid, 40 hidden mines and absolutely nothing standing between you and your first click.

It follows the original Windows rules exactly — same numbers, same flags, same win condition. Gameplay is simple to state and hard to master: reveal a square, read the number it shows, and use that count of adjacent mines to prove where the danger is and where it is not.

Desktop players use the traditional two-button scheme, while mobile players tap the Dig or Flag switch. Either way the mine counter tracks how many flags you still have left to place.

First-click safety is built in. Mines are placed only after your opening dig and never inside the 3x3 area around it, which means every game starts with real information instead of a coin flip. Technically the whole thing is a small React application styled with Tailwind CSS. The page is server-rendered, so search engines and slow connections both receive readable HTML immediately, and the sound effects are synthesized live with the Web Audio API rather than downloaded as files.

Play a single board on a break or a dozen in a row; the game keeps no state and asks nothing of you. Whether you are here for a quick distraction or a serious attempt at a personal best, the board is ready the moment the page finishes loading, and it costs nothing to try again.
