About Endgame Technique
If you came looking for endgame technique, this is the full game: a 256-square board, 40 buried mines and a timer that starts the moment you dig.
In the endgame, the remaining mine counter becomes a global constraint you can solve with. Each number on the board is a promise. It tells you precisely how many of the eight squares around it hide a mine, and from that single fact whole regions can be solved without any luck at all.
Controls are deliberately small in number: left-click to reveal, right-click to flag, or use the on-screen mode toggle if you are playing on a touchscreen. The mine counter and timer update live as you play.
Nobody enjoys losing on move one, so the board is not built until you click. The generator then places all 40 mines away from your opening square and the ring around it, guaranteeing a usable cascade to start from. The build is intentionally light. Server-rendered HTML paints instantly, the game logic is a few kilobytes of client-side state, and every sound is generated at runtime by an audio oscillator instead of streamed from a server.
There is no score to chase but your own time, which is exactly why the game has outlived the hardware it was written for. Whether you are here for a quick distraction or a serious attempt at a personal best, the board is ready the moment the page finishes loading, and it costs nothing to try again.
