About Accessible Minesweeper

Welcome to accessible minesweeper — a complete 16x16 Minesweeper board with 40 mines, first-click safety and synthesized retro sound, running natively in your browser tab.

Colour is never the only signal — numbers carry the information, colour just speeds up reading. The board speaks in numbers. A three means three of the eight touching squares are mined; a satisfied number means every remaining neighbour is provably safe to open.

Desktop players use the traditional two-button scheme, while mobile players tap the Dig or Flag switch. Either way the mine counter tracks how many flags you still have left to place.

Your very first click is always safe. The mine layout is generated after you dig, and the algorithm keeps your opening square and its immediate neighbours clear, so no session ever ends before it has properly begun. Under the hood it is plain modern web technology: React for state, Tailwind for the neon styling, and oscillator-based Web Audio for the ticks, flag clicks, win chime and explosion. There is no plugin, no installer and no account.

Play a single board on a break or a dozen in a row; the game keeps no state and asks nothing of you. Whether you are here for a quick distraction or a serious attempt at a personal best, the board is ready the moment the page finishes loading, and it costs nothing to try again.
