About Common Mistakes
Welcome to common mistakes — a complete 16x16 Minesweeper board with 40 mines, first-click safety and synthesized retro sound, running natively in your browser tab.
The classic loss is clicking near a number you already satisfied with the wrong flag. The board speaks in numbers. A three means three of the eight touching squares are mined; a satisfied number means every remaining neighbour is provably safe to open.
Desktop players use the traditional two-button scheme, while mobile players tap the Dig or Flag switch. Either way the mine counter tracks how many flags you still have left to place.
Nobody enjoys losing on move one, so the board is not built until you click. The generator then places all 40 mines away from your opening square and the ring around it, guaranteeing a usable cascade to start from. The build is intentionally light. Server-rendered HTML paints instantly, the game logic is a few kilobytes of client-side state, and every sound is generated at runtime by an audio oscillator instead of streamed from a server.
Play a single board on a break or a dozen in a row; the game keeps no state and asks nothing of you. Whether you are here for a quick distraction or a serious attempt at a personal best, the board is ready the moment the page finishes loading, and it costs nothing to try again.
